Save a little each day on everyday things

While the credit crunch is biting hard, we’re all trying to cut back and cut down. So with that in mind here are a few hints and tips on how to re-use items that you might normally throw away and also how to cut down on what you spend on a daily basis.

·        Mayonnaise makes a great hair conditioner and you only need a very small amount. On a food theme, you can use lemon juice to highlight your hair instead of buying highlighting products.

·        Banana skins make great shoe polishers due to the potassium in the skins. Once you’ve used the skins to clean your shoes, buff them up with a soft cloth.

·        Rip up old t-shirts or old towels to use as dusters.

·        The nets that oranges and other fruit come in make good dish scourers.

·        Instead of buying window cleaning products, use vinegar in water to clean your windows.

·        When you go shopping, try to go just before the supermarket closes when bread and other perishables will be reduced. Also buy the supermarket’s own brand rather than branded goods. They’re much cheaper and usually just as good.

·        Instead of buying bottled water, just keep used bottles and refill them with tap water.

·        Use a tea-bag twice; it won’t affect the flavour and they’ll last you twice as long.

·        If you normally buy your lunch while at work, make your own packed lunch instead. £2 or so a day may not seem much but if that’s what your lunch costs, you can save around £60 a month.

·        Use old yoghurt pots to freeze some cola or orange squash and keep your lolly sticks to re-use and make new lollies!

·        Try to walk where possible instead of using your car or public transport.
